In every celebration of the Eucharist there should be a sufficient number of ministers of Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner... the priest may call upon extraordinary ministers to assist him, i.e., duly instituted acolytes or even other faithful who have been deputed for this purpose..." Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
are lay ministers, who have been commissioned by the Bishop of Orlando to assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion at Mass.
Requirements:
Must be in full communion with the Church and its teachings on faith, morals, marriage (if applicable) and lifestyle and must be able to participate in the Sacrament themselves.
Must have completed the Sacraments of Initiation.
Must frequent the Sacrament of Reconciliation and have a devotion to Eucharistic Adoration.
Responsibilities: Ministers must attend an initial three hour workshop offered through the Diocesan Office of Liturgy followed by local training and parish walk-through. Ongoing education strongly encouraged. Mandates are renewed every two years following re-certification training.
