aint Paul, in his letter to the Romans, Chapter 16, comments; "I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a minister of the church... receive her in the Lord...help her...for she has been a benefactor to many and to me as well."  In much the same manner does the St. Joseph Guild concern themselves with the social, economic and environmental issues impacting today's world.

The St. Joseph Guild has been a part of St. Joseph Church since 1944 yet their actual beginning dates back to the St. Joseph Altar Society that existed in 1915.  St. Joseph Catholic Church was then part of the Diocese of St. Augustine so St. Joseph Guild became affiliated with the National Council of Catholic Women.  In 1968 the diocese was reformed creating the new Diocese of Orlando of which St. Joseph now belongs and today the Guild is part of the Western Deanery of Catholic Women in the Western Deanery of the Orlando Diocese.

The National Council of Catholic Women's mission statement, as a result of this 24 year association, was adopted by the Guild; "To support, empower and educate all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service."  Like the NCCW, the Guild's members respond to these needs of the Church and modern society with Gospel values.

Spirituality is lifted by focusing support first to the individual family, then the local community family, then the universal family.  Service is first offered to the local community and then expands to the international community then the world community. Finally, Leadership is enhanced through local organization to lift up legislative leaders at all levels which reflect the ideals of the Church.

The Religious Gift Shop, their most visible presence to the casual churchgoer, is located in the northwest corner of the church and operates before and after weekend Masses.  Popular fundraisers include the Chocolate Fantasy and Bake Sale around St. Valentine's Day and the Christmas Gift Sale.  All exist to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Choose Life, Catholic Charities, the Emergency Services Center and the Church Building Fund.

The Guild was and still is the voice of Catholic Women, strongly heard through their support of institutions and movements that reflect Catholic ideals of family, community and country.  St. Paul's introduction of Phoebe is, in essence, an introduction of  the Guild.  Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month.  For more information contact:
